PLDT improves to 2-0 as Alleiah Malaluan shines in PVL debut
Rookie wing spiker Alleiah Malaluan wasted no time making her presence felt in her Premier Volleyball League (PVL) debut, powering PLDT to a commanding 25-16, 25-14, 25-20 over Chery Tiggo in the 2025 PVL Invitational on Thursday, August 21, at the Philsports Arena.
The De La Salle University standout fired 11 points built on 10 attacks and one ace, while also anchoring PLDT’s defense with 13 excellent digs and nine excellent receptions.
Fresh from her stint with Alas Pilipinas, Malaluan expressed her gratitude for finally joining her mother club.
“I’m really grateful for this opportunity because I’ve been with the team for a few months already, and this experience has been a stepping stone for me to build a connection with them. Of course, I need to develop that chemistry with everyone,” Malaluan said after the match.

Her breakout performance came at a crucial time, with PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort opting to rest several of his veterans, including Kim Fajardo and Kianna Dy, while top scorer Savi Davison suited up but did not play.
“The goal for this game was to prioritize the health of our players like Kim, Kianna, and even Sav, whom we only asked to be in uniform. More importantly, we wanted to give opportunities to our second unit. Thankfully, one of our reinforcements, Alleiah, stepped up and delivered,” Ricafort explained.
Majoy Baron continued her solid form with 10 markers, while Jessey De Leon and Jovy Gonzaga chipped in nine and eight points, respectively.
Meanwhile, no Crossover reached double digits, with Cess Robles leading Chery Tiggo’s effort with eight markers. Shaya Adorador and Ara Galang added six apiece.
With the win, PLDT improved to 2-0 in the carryover standings, while Chery Tiggo slipped to 1-1.
The High Speed Hitters look to stay unbeaten when they face sister team Cignal on Saturday, August 23, while the Crossovers aim to bounce back against Creamline.
