PLDT improves to 2-0 as Alleiah Malaluan shines in PVL debut

Rookie wing spiker Alleiah Malaluan wasted no time making her presence felt in her Premier Volleyball League (PVL) debut, powering PLDT to a commanding 25-16, 25-14, 25-20 over Chery Tiggo in the 2025 PVL Invitational on Thursday, August 21, at the Philsports Arena.

The De La Salle University standout fired 11 points built on 10 attacks and one ace, while also anchoring PLDT’s defense with 13 excellent digs and nine excellent receptions.

Fresh from her stint with Alas Pilipinas, Malaluan expressed her gratitude for finally joining her mother club.

“I’m really grateful for this opportunity because I’ve been with the team for a few months already, and this experience has been a stepping stone for me to build a connection with them. Of course, I need to develop that chemistry with everyone,” Malaluan said after the match.

PVL gears up for jam-packed August with Invitationals, Playoffs

The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) is heading into a thrilling August stretch, with the 2025 Invitational Conference officially set to unfold from August 19 to 31.

According to the league’s official website, the midseason meet will serve as a 12-day mini-tournament featuring six teams, kicking off just two days after the conclusion of the PVL On Tour.

The field will include the Top 4 semifinalists from the ongoing PVL On Tour, alongside two guest teams whose identities have yet to be announced. Buzz continues to build around a possible entry by Alas Pilipinas, the women’s national team, though league and federation officials have yet to confirm their participation.

All preliminary matches are scheduled to be played at Philsports Arena, the league’s main venue, before shifting to the Smart Araneta Coliseum for the final three playdates.

Jema Galanza of Creamline Cool Smashers

Creamline dominates Chery Tiggo, moves closer to PVL semis

Creamline is just one win away from securing yet another semifinal appearance in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference after a commanding straight-sets victory over Chery Tiggo, 25-10, 27-25, 25-21, on Tuesday, March 18, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Adding to the celebration, the victory marked a personal milestone for head coach Sherwin Meneses, who earned his 100th career win with Creamline.

“We’re thankful for the management’s support. Our goal is always to keep winning,” Meneses said after the match.

From the get-go, Alyssa Valdez and Jema Galanza set the pace for Creamline, launching an offensive onslaught that overwhelmed the Crossovers in the opening frame.

Valdez made an immediate impact, delivering three straight points early in the first set, while Bea de Leon kept the momentum going with powerful spikes that left their opponents struggling to respond.

Chery Tiggo showed resilience in the second set, with Shaya Adorador leading the charge. However, just when the Crossovers seemed poised to steal the frame, Pangs Panaga came through with a clutch block to seal it for Creamline.

The third set saw Chery Tiggo attempt another fightback, led by Pauline Gaston and Cess Robles. However, Creamline’s defense held firm, with De Leon and Seth Rodriguez battling at the net. Ultimately, the Cool Smashers prevailed without dropping a set.

The Crossovers needed two hours and seven minutes to overcome the determined Foxies, who pushed them at every turn. However, Chery Tiggo’s experience and composure in crucial moments made the difference, setting up a best-of-three quarterfinal clash with reigning champions Creamline.

Petro Gazz stages dramatic comeback to beat Chery Tiggo

Petro Gazz pulls off reverse sweep to beat Chery Tiggo

Petro Gazz staged an impressive reverse sweep against Chery Tiggo, 20-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-15, 15-7, in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) on Tuesday, January 21, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

The squad improved their record to 6-1, propelling them to the top of the team standings.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Myla Pablo played a significant part in the Angels' pivotal runs in the third and fourth sets, but Brooke Van Sickle was the star of the fifth set, earning seven points — including five in a row to begin the final — to help Petro Gazz win for the fifth time in a row.

Van Sickle’s playing time was limited as a precaution due to a minor procedure on her left knee last December, but she still finished in double-digits with 10 points, along with 11 excellent digs.

Coach Koji Tzuzurabara expressed pride in his wards following their stunning comeback, pointing out their enhanced communication and defense in the All-Filipino Conference.
