Pinay weightlifter wins another bronze medal in the 2024 IWF World Championships

Another bronze medal was delivered by Rosegie Ramos for the six-man Philippines team in the IWF World Championships in Bahrain. 

The 20-year-old weightlifter achieved a total lift of 88kgs in the snatch and 105kgs in the clean-and-jerk for a total lift of 193kgs in the 49-kg category.

Ri Song Gum of North Korea dominated the women’s 49-kg event after lifting a total of 213kgs behind a snatch of 91kgs and a clean-and-jerk of 122kgs.

Meanwhile, Linxiang Xiang setteled for a silver after lifting a snatch of 92kgs and a clean-and-jerk of 120kgs for a total lift of 212kgs.

Her success was followed by another bronze medal for the Philippines when Fernando Agad Jr. excelled in the men’s 55-kg category.

After receiving the medal, the weightlifter from Zamboanga City expressed her gratitude in a long post on her official social media page.

“Sa totoo lang, hindi ko po alam saan magsisimula. Sobrang saya at sobrang priceless ‘yung nararamdaman ko ngayon. Hindi ko alam paano nangyari lahat, pati ako na-shock sa performance ko. Thank you, God! Alam mo Lord kung gaano ko ito ka-kailangan. At hindi mo ako binigo,” she wrote.

“Ang podium finishes na ito ay isang malaking paalala na kahit ano man ang pagsubok na pagdaanan natin sa buhay, laging anjan si God, ang ating pamilya, kasama ng mga totoo at tamang tao para tulungan tayong bumangon ulit,” she added.

According to Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas president Monico Puentevella, Ramos is learning her lesson the hard way. She also wants to go to the Los Angeles Olympics  in three more years from now. 

“She’s learning her lesson the hard way. In His Time, she’ll be going to the Los Angeles Olympics too in three more years,” Puentevella said.

“She has to train more and we have plans for her, too,” he added.

Meanwhile, two-time Olympian Elreen Ando will take part in the women’s 64-kg event today, December 11, alongside 2019 SEA Games’ gold medalist Kristel Macrohon in the women’s 71-kg category.

Also, John Dexter Tabique will  represent the country in the men’s 89 kg competition.
