Head Coach of UE women's Volleyball team part ways with Lady Warriors

Few months before the start of the 87th season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women's volleyball tournament, Dr. Obet Vital filed his resignation as the head coach of UE women's volleyball team last Tuesday, December 10.

Although for Dr. Vital, it was a tough decision he made, but there are things beyond their  control.

According to the chief tactician of the Recto-based volleyball squad, there were differences in vision, particularly regarding the program of development, especially in grassroots initiatives, and the long-term direction of the team. Also, the approach is not maintained and no longer aligned.

“It was a tough decision, but there are things beyond our control that led to this. There were differences in vision, particularly regarding program development, grassroots initiatives, and the long-term direction of the team. It became clear to us that our goal no longer aligned,” Vital said on bidding his farewell.

“Still, I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had with the team and the support from the UE community,” Dr. Vital added.

After Jerry Yee’s suspension last season, Vital replaced the post, importing remarkable players for the Lady Warriors, including Caisey Dongallo, Jelai Gajero, Kizzie Madriaga, Shamel Fernandez, and Jenalyn Umayam from the California Academy—Antipolo.

In UAAP Season 86, Vital also landed the women’s volleyball team to a sixth place finish.

He also continued coaching UE through various preseason tournaments like the V-League and the Shakey’s Super League before stepping down, leaving behind arguably the most promising crop of Lady Warriors recruits in recent memory.

Still, there are no reports on who will be the new head coach of the Lady Warriors, marking today as an excruciating loss for the Red-and-White.
