Farm Fresh claims first win in All-Filipino vs Akari
Farm Fresh stormed into the win column of the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference after pulling off a major upset against Akari, 25-23, 25-21, 25-14, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig on Saturday, November 30.
Louie Romero and Trisha Tubu spearheaded the Foxies’s offense, ending a two-game losing streak against heavily fancied Akari Chargers.
"First of all, if you can see, everyone really helped each other. So after the Petro game, I told them, there would be no more balls falling on us because we are quite small," said head coach Benson Bocboc.
"That's all we worked on. Then, of course, let's give those others who can hit and score a chance too. The outcome was good enough to deliver. If we look, the score of the players is distributed. Hopefully, this is the start," he added.
After two closely contested sets, the Foxies dominated the third, putting up a strong offensive from Tubu to take an 11-point lead, 20-9.
Farm Fresh won the game in just one hour and twenty-five minutes as Akari found it difficult to get back on track.
Tubu put on an incredible display, finishing with 21 points on an effective 18-of-28 offensive clip and dishing out three blocks.
Rizza Cruz and Caitlin Viray scored seven and eight markers, respectively, while Alyssa Bertolano displayed her versatility with six points, 11 excellent digs, and seven excellent receptions.
Romero, who just recovered from a neck injury, led the attack with 19 excellent sets and supplemented five points.
After a solid 2-0 start to the tournament, Akari suffered their second straight loss, dropping them to a 2-2 record.
Ivy Lacsina was the lone bright spot for the Chargers, registering 13 points, all from attacks, while Eli Soyud added eight points.
The Farm Fresh Foxies will take on the surging ZUS Coffee at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Thursday, December 5, while the Akari Chargers will try to recover against Petro Gazz on the same date and venue.
