UST’s Forthsky Padrigao to miss opener due to one-game ban
The UST Growling Tigers will be missing a key weapon in their UAAP Season 88 opener as star guard Forthsky Padrigao serves a one-game suspension.
Padrigao is sidelined for UST’s clash against reigning champions, the UP Fighting Maroons, on Sunday, September 21, at the Quadricentennial Pavilion. His suspension stems from the two unsportsmanlike fouls he committed in last season’s Final Four matchup versus UP, where the Tigers bowed out, 78-69.

Both infractions were called against former UP center Quentin Millora-Brown, with Padrigao tossed out of the game in the closing minutes. Despite the suspension carrying over to the new season, UAAP officials clarified that the guard remains eligible for individual awards.
Now entering his second—and final—season with UST after moving from Ateneo in 2023, Padrigao is expected to be one of the leaders of coach Pido Jarencio’s squad. A former Mythical Five selection, he posted averages of 8.7 points, 5.9 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in Season 87, providing a steady backcourt presence alongside Nic Cabañero.
While the Tigers will be short-handed for their opening game, Padrigao’s return is anticipated to bolster their campaign as they chase a stronger finish this year.
