Nitura drops 30 as Adamson nears first V-League Collegiate title

Captain Shaina Nitura simply refused to lose.

Dropping a massive 30-point bomb on Far Eastern University (FEU), along with 12 digs and 18 receptions, the Adamson Lady Falcons took flight toward history after a gutsy 25-18, 26-24, 23-25, 25-23 victory in Game 1 of the 2025 V-League Collegiate Challenge Finals on Monday at the FilOil Centre in San Juan.

This wasn’t just another win—it was a statement.

The Lady Falcons clawed back from a deep second-set hole, showing the kind of composure and fight that define champions in the making. One more victory, and Adamson will clinch its first-ever V-League crown, breaking a six-year title drought in a Sports Vision-backed tournament since their 2019 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Collegiate Conference triumph.

When the fourth set got tense, Frances Mordi delivered in crunch time, dropping four huge points to keep FEU at bay. And when it mattered most, Nitura ended it with a thunderous kill that silenced the Lady Tamaraws’ late rally after two hours of high-octane volleyball.

Adamson's Shaina Nitura and La Salle's Chris Hernandez

Historic MVP triumphs for Nitura and Hernandez in V-League

History was made in the 2025 V-League Collegiate Challenge as Adamson University’s Shaina Nitura and De La Salle University’s Chris Hernandez became the first players from their respective schools to capture the Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors.

Both standouts powered their teams to the Finals, with Nitura leading the Lady Falcons’ unbeaten nine-game run, while Hernandez carried a revamped Green Spikers squad with his all-around brilliance and leadership.

Nitura, a 20-year-old outside hitter from Cainta, Rizal, proved to be a force on both ends of the court. She finished as the second-highest scorer in the women’s division with 119 points (107 attacks, six blocks, six aces) and ranked among the top 10 in spiking, receiving, and digging. Her consistency was instrumental in Adamson’s dominant campaign.

Hernandez, meanwhile, filled the void left by key La Salle veterans, delivering a breakout season. The De La Salle Lipa product placed fourth in scoring with 107 points (89 attacks, nine blocks, nine aces) and topped the league in serving efficiency. His balanced game also earned him top-five finishes in receiving, digging, and spiking—solidifying his status as the tournament’s most complete player.

Nitura and Hernandez also led the V-League Supreme Teams of their divisions, alongside a host of standout performers from other schools.

Arellano Lady Chiefs

Arellano takes solo fourth, Adamson heads to semis unbeaten

Arellano University displayed resilience after a shaky second set to edge Colegio de San Juan, 25-14, 23-25, 25-22, 26-24, and seize solo fourth place in the 2025 V-League Collegiate Challenge on Sunday, September 7, at the Paco Arena Events and Sports Center in Manila.

Both squads entered the court carrying the fatigue of their five-set battles the day before, but the Lady Chiefs proved steadier. Led by the scoring trio of Laika Tudlasan, Sam Tiratira, and Crisanta Servidad, they notched their second straight win in the eight-team field.

Tudlasan spearheaded the charge with 19 points off 18 kills, while Tiratira chipped in 16 markers built on 12 attacks and four blocks. With the victory, Arellano climbed to 3-3, staying in the hunt for a semifinal berth.

“We’re happy to beat Letran because they’re a strong NCAA contender. I told my players that it’s in their hands — if they want to extend our season, it depends on how they respond. This win is all because of their effort,” said Lady Chiefs head coach Obet Javier.

Adamson sweeps Letran, secures perfect 6-0 semis record

Adamson University stamped its dominance in the 2025 V-League Collegiate Challenge, locking in the top semifinal seed with a convincing sweep of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 25-18, 25-17, 25-16, on Wednesday at the Paco Arena in Manila.

The Lady Falcons kept their spotless slate intact at 6-0, riding on a balanced effort from rookie sensation Abby Segui, who fired 12 points, and star hitter Shaina Nitura, who added 10 points and anchored their floor defense. Frances Mordi also provided steady scoring with 12 markers in the win.

Adamson showed little mercy in the third set, quickly racing to a 14-3 advantage before sealing the match with Red Bascon’s emphatic block. Earlier, Segui and Lhouriz Tuddao combined for crucial points in the second frame to help the Falcons gain full control.

Adamson, St. Benilde keep perfect records alive in V-League

Shaina Nitura made a rousing V-League debut for Adamson University, while College of Saint Benilde held firm against a late rally by Colegio de San Juan de Letran as both squads preserved their spotless records in the 2025 V-League Collegiate Challenge, Tuesday, August 12, at the Paco Arena Sports and Events Center in Manila.

Fresh from her stint with Alas Pilipinas in the SEA V.League, the Adamson sophomore outside hitter unleashed a 28-point explosion off 27 from attacks and one from a block to cruise the Lady Falcons past Far Eastern University in a five-set thriller, 25-22, 25-21, 17-25, 22-25, 15-11.

Nitura came up big in the decider, firing five crucial points to give Adamson a 23-20 cushion before closing out the match and notching the team’s second straight win.

Head coach JP Yude admitted that passing woes in the middle frames nearly derailed their momentum but lauded the grit his players showed down the stretch.

“We started as a new group, and this is where we’re gaining our confidence. This is also where their character is really tested,” Yude said.

Frances Mordi backed Nitura with 15 points, while Lhouriz Tuddao and MG Del Moral chipped in eight each for Adamson, which now shares the tournament lead with Benilde.

FEU’s Gerzel Petallo finished with 18 points, while Jaz Ellarina added 16, including seven blocks.

Adamson’s Shaina Nitura sets new UAAP record with 38-point explosion

Adamson’s Shaina Nitura sets record but falls short against UP

Rookie sensation Shaina Nitura made history with a record-breaking 38-point performance, but Adamson still fell short in a grueling five-set loss to the University of the Philippines (UP) in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday, March 16.

Despite Nitura’s dominant display of 35 kills and three aces, the Lady Falcons suffered their fourth consecutive defeat, closing the first round with a tough 15-25, 25-15, 26-24, 22-25, 10-15 loss.

Her scoring feat surpassed the previous UAAP record of 35 points held by Ateneo de Manila University’s Alyssa Valdez (Season 75, 2013) and University of Santo Tomas’s Sisi Rondina (Season 81, 2019).

However, the disappointment was evident as the 20-year-old Adamson star remained in the dugout for hours after the match and declined media interviews, with head coach JP Yude also refusing to speak.

Nitura, who also tallied 15 excellent receptions, had already cemented her place in Adamson history by tying Angela Bengting’s 33-point school record in her debut against Ateneo last month.

Shaina Nitura debuts with a record-breaking 33-point outing as the Adamson Lady Falcons soar past Ateneo de Manila University

Shaina Nitura registers record-breaking debut game vs Ateneo

Shaina Nitura unleashed a record game debut to lead Adamson to a thrilling reverse sweep over Ateneo de Manila University, 21-25, 20-25, 25-12, 25-15, 15-12, in the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Volleyball Tournament on Sunday, February 16, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

The homegrown Adamson product reset the UAAP scoring record for a rookie in her debut game as she unloaded 33 points anchored on 28 attacks, four blocks, and one ace, while also grabbing five digs and seven receptions.

Despite Nitura surpassing the record previously set by University of Santo Tomas’s Angge Poyos, who fired 31 markers last season, she downplayed the achievement.
