The Philippine Curling Team celebrate after their gold medal-clinching victory at the Harbin Asian Winter Games last February.

Philippine Curling Team nears historic Winter Olympic berth

The Philippine men’s curling team took a huge step toward making history after going undefeated in a pre-Olympic qualification event held at Curl Aberdeen in Scotland over the weekend, putting them on the brink of qualifying for the 2026 Milan–Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics.

The team, composed of Marc Pfister, Christian Haller, Enrico Pfister, Brayden Carpenter, and alternate Alan Frei, clinched an automatic berth to the Olympic Qualification 2025 tournament set from December 6 to 19 in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.

The top two teams from that event will secure tickets to the Winter Olympics scheduled for February 4 to 22, 2026.

Filipino curlers secure historic Asian Winter Olympic gold medal

The Philippine Men’s Curling Team won its first ever gold medal today, February 14, in the ongoing 2025 Harbin Winter Olympics in China.

This marks the country’s historical achievement in the Winter Olympics this year, and the first ever medal for the Philippines in the Asian Winter Games.

The team composed of Alan Frei, Enrico Pfister, Christian Haller, Marc Pfister, and Benjo Delarmente led the Philippines to a 5-3 win over South Korea.

The Men’s Curling Team made the once impossible possible as they ensured the country would go home with a historic medal in the quadrennial event.

Earlier, Filipino curlers Christian Haller and Alan Frei defeated their Taiwanese opponents 11-3 to set up a knockout qualification match against the Japanese squad of Ryo Aoki, Haruki Watanabe, Ayumu Hemmi, and Rin Kyotoh.

The Men’s Curling team also defeated Japan 10-4, and the Philippines recently defeated host country China 7-6, qualifying the country for the finals to face South Korea.

The country's Men's Curling team cannot help but be overjoyed because, for them, winning the first gold medal at the Winter Olympics in this type of sporting event is a historic achievement.
