What rewards await Carlos Yulo after the 2024 Olympics?
Carlos Edriel “Caloy” Yulo’s memorable win at the 2024 Paris Olympics comes with its perks that will mark his place in Philippine history.
From millions of pesos in cash prizes, to perks at selected establishments, the Philippines’ “Golden Boy” comes home from Paris to a myriad of rewards that are waiting for him across the Philippines.
We take a look at the rewards that the 24-year-old Olympian will come home to after what has been a historic run at the biggest sporting stage of them all.
“The amount necessary for the implementation of the cash incentives and retirement benefits under this Act shall be taken from the net cash income of the PAGCOR, to be remitted directly as a special account to the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) of the PSC,” the law’s provision for funding sources says.
GOVERNMENT BENEFITS, PLEDGES
According to Section 8 of Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act, Yulo is set to receive a P10 million cash grant for winning the gold medal in individual events. Since Yulo won two gold medals, he will get one each for his win at the Men’s Floor Exercise and the Men’s Vault events, earning him a total of P20 million pesos from these incentives alone.

A dual grant also awaits Yulo for his medals - this time from the House of Representatives. House Speaker Martin Romualdez said that Yulo gets P6 million from the Lower House in recognition of his double gold medal wins. An additional fundraiser for Yulo is also underway, with funding coming from different politicians.
The Philippine Olympic Committee is also set to give Yulo his own house and lot - the same package Hidilyn Diaz won in 2020.
Yulo will also receive an Olympic Gold Medal of Valor from the Philippine Sports Commission for his historic feat.
In total, the grants from government - both legally mandated and in pledges, are more or less amounting to at least P26 million.
The Philippine capital city of Manila says it is preparing a parade and a “hero’s welcome” for the double gold medalist. Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna said that a “grandest welcome” will greet Yulo and all Olympians. The city too, will present its own cash incentives from the local government.
Yulo spent his youth in Manila, where he studied and trained to become the Olympic gymnast that he is today.
BUSINESSES PLEDGE CASH, PERKS, AND OTHER INCENTIVES
After his initial gold win last August 3, property giant Megaworld Corporation initially pledged a P3 million cash grant and a fully-furnished two-bedroom condominium unit worth P24 million.
After news of his second gold broke, Megaworld upgraded its condo grant to the Golden Boy, giving him a three-bedroom unit at McKinley Hill, Taguig, valued at P32 million.
“Since this is a very significant milestone in the history of Philippine sports to have two gold Olympic medals during our 100th year participation as a country in the Olympics, which also coincides with our company’s 35th anniversary this year, we are boosting our reward for Carlos Yulo now totaling to P35-million,” Megaworld President Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso said in a statement released August 5th.
Bounty Fresh’s brand of roasted chicken, Chooks to Go, also pledged a P3 million cash grant to the Olympian. SM Retail group also pledged P1 million worth of free items from its department stores and supermarket chains.
Lifetime perks also await the 24-year-old Olympian.
