Petro Gazz blasts Farm Fresh in straight sets

Petro Gazz rebounded from a heartbreaking loss to defending champion Creamline with a strong 25-21, 25-17, 25-19 win over Farm Fresh in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Saturday, November 23, at Candon City Arena, Ilocos Sur.

The Angels won their second straight game thanks to a spectacular homecoming performance from reigning conference MVP Brooke Van Sickle, who scored 20 points — 19 of which came from attacks.

With the victory, Petro Gazz and Choco Mucho shared the same 2-1 record and were now tied for fourth position.

“Last game against Creamline, we didn’t have good teamwork, but today, we had great teamwork, and that’s why we won,” said Petro Gazz head coach Koji Tsuzurabara.

Myla Pablo had a strong start, tallying 11 markers while covering for Jonah Sabete, who was sidelined due to a strained left calf. Seasoned opposite spiker, Aiza Pontillas added 10 points, including the game-winning hit.

Djanel Cheng orchestrated the Angels’ offense with 13 excellent sets, while Baby Love Barbon led their defense with 12 excellent receptions and 12 excellent digs.

Petro Gazz will play their first game after an 11-day hiatus against Akari in Quezon City's Smart Araneta Coliseum on December 5.

Meanwhile, Farm Fresh lost their second consecutive game under Benson Bocboc, their new head coach.

Trisha Tubu, who finished 14 markers, including 13 attacks, was the Foxies' lone double-digit scorer, while Rizza Cruz and Maicah Larroza each contributed seven and nine points.

The Foxies will play Akari in an attempt to bag a win in the conference for the first time on Saturday, November 30, at Philsports Arena in Pasig.
