NU Pep Squad regains UAAP cheerdance crown
National University ruled the UAAP Season 87 Cheerdance Competition, claiming its eight title overall with a breathtaking, space-themed performance on Sunday, December 1, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
With NU capturing their eighth UAAP Cheerdance Competition crown, they are now tied with longtime first-placers University of the Philippines Pep Squad and University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Troupe, solidifying the program's status as an all-time powerhouse in the highly-anticipated annual competition.
NU Pep Squad’s gravity-defying, windmill-like stunts propelled the team to a runaway victory, dethroning Far Eastern University with a total of 713 points.
Team captain John Paul Cabido credited his coaches for the concept and theme.

"We are so excited, and we are grateful for our coaches' concept and idea. We trusted them for the piece that we performed today. This is for the NU community," Cabido said.
NU had the highest scores of any team in the following categories, recording 86.5 in tumblings, 91.5 in stunts, 91 in tosses, 85 in pyramids, and 368 in dance. They also received only nine points from penalties and deductions.
In addition to being crowned this year’s titlists, NU also won all of the special awards namely: Power Performance Award, Juicy-fied Pyramid, Best Aerial Performance, Lit Dance Move Award, Stylish Performance Award, Most Unique Dance Move Award, and Most Synchronized Dance Move.
The Adamson Pep Squad’s karaoke-inspired routine earned them a silver medal finish with 679.5 points.
Meanwhile, Season 86 champion FEU Cheering Squad completed the podium, showcasing a dazzling Frozen-theme performance which included a quick-change stunt featuring a member dressed as the popular Disney character Elsa. They amassed 650 points.
