Manila gears up for Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series
The City of Manila will host the third edition of the ASICS Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series this weekend, November 23 to 24, which is expected to draw more than 9,000 runners from 58 countries to Rizal Park.
Asia’s first and only Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series is a one-of-a-kind event that takes place in the center of Manila and combines running, live music, and lively community across two days.
Participants will don their running shoes for the marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K distances while taking in Manila's rich cultural heritage with each course accompanied by live music, cheer squads, and an exciting atmosphere.
Among the city's most well-known sites that runners will pass by are Chinatown, Manila City Hall, Jones Bridge, Intramuros, Rizal Park, and the National Museum.
The event’s formal commencement was graced by Manila Vice Mayor Yul Servo during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at Robinson’s Place Manila.
Servo welcomed the event with open arms and said that the participation is "all about discipline and determination, and being fit and healthy."
Joining Servo in the special edition of the weekly forum were Princess Galura, general manager and regional director of the organizing IRONMAN Group Philippines; Melissa Henson, chief marketing officer of AIA Philippines; Charlie Dungo of the Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila; and Rustica Faith So, Senior Brand Communications Executive of ASICS.
Manila's commitment to fostering community spirit, tourism, and health was emphasized by Mayor Honey Lacuna. She characterized Manila's readiness to host top-tier events as a cultural and international destination, calling the marathon a tribute to the city's development.
The meticulously organized event is more than just a race, according to Galura.
"With music and Manila's iconic landmarks, this is a celebration of the city – its resilience, history, and aspirations for the future," she stated during the forum.
A thrilling midnight performance will conclude a night of enjoyment and endurance for runners at the Quirino Grandstand.
