Malacanang prepares ‘simple but meaningful’ welcome to Filipino Olympians

The Office of the President prepares a simple yet meaningful heroes’ welcome once the 22 Filipino Olympian return to the Philippines on Tuesday.

According to Reichel Quiñones, Chief of Presidential Protocol and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs, two-time Olympic champion Carlos Yulo and the rest of the Filipino Olympians will arrive in the Philippines in the evening of Tuesday of August 13 via chartered flight where they will be received by their families at the Maharlika Presidential Hangar at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.

They will be welcomed by the First Family in Malacañang and after that, an awarding ceremony and dinner reception will be held in a simple yet meaningful way for them.

"The peg for it, for the organizing committee, is we want it to be a Heroes' welcome and it's very much focused on them and what they have done to honor the nation, "There will be an awarding ceremony at the Palace to confer certain awards that the President has the right to give." Quiñones said.

According to Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary Dale de Vera, the President will be announcing cash incentives upon the welcome honors for the Olympians.

Meanwhile, Quinones said that the motorcade will start from Pasay City the following day. 

''The following day [Wednesday], the athletes will be picked up from their [places of accommodation] and be brought to Aliw Theater where a motorcade will be held, from Aliw Theater to the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex,'' Quiñones said

As per Presidential Communications Office, the motorcade will start from Aliw Theater then it will turn to Roxas Boulevard, right turn to P. Burgos, and then straight ahead to Finance Road. It will then reach Taft Avenue, right turn to Quirino Avenue up to Adriatico Street and it will end at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

The country wrapped up the Paris Olympics garnering 37th place in ranking with two gold medals from Yulo, who ruled the men's floor exercise and vault, and two bronze medals courtesy of boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas.
