Kai Sotto tears ACL during B.League 2025 season game
Kai Sotto has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) following an awkward landing during the Koshigaya Alphas’ game against Seahorses Mikawa on Sunday, January 5.
Sotto has been relegated to the B.League Injury List, confirming that he will miss the B.League Asia Rising Star Game on January 18.
On a social media post, the 7-foot-3 center shared that he considers it the most trying time in his career, but he remains steadfast in his resolve and faith despite the setback.
“The worst way to start the year, might be the darkest day of my basketball career, when I was told I tore my ACL. Tough to let this one sink in. I appreciate all the love and support everyone has given me these past few days. I know God has a better plan for me and just have to keep going,” Sotto wrote.
With the confirmation of Sotto’s injury status, Gilas Pilipinas will miss his services, especially that the squad is preparing for the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers on February 20 against Taiwan and New Zealand on February 23.
Gilas head coach Tim Cone has already reaffirmed that the national team will stick with the current pool.
Cone is optimistic about his current pool, with Gilas already securing a perfect 4-0 record in the Qualifiers and a spot in the continental meet scheduled for August 5 to 17 in Saudi Arabia.
