Consistent Scottie Thompson helps Ginebra's finals campaign
If there's someone in a Barangay Ginebra’s uniform that's consistent in the PBA Season 49 Governors' Cup Finals, it will be the former MVP Scottie Thompson.
Before the Finals started, Thompson shared his thoughts about the Governors’ Cup Last Dance with Scoreline.ph.
He said that the team is happy that they are back in Finals but the job is not yet done.
After their grueling series against San Miguel Beermen in the semi-final round, Thompson said that they will bring the same intensity to the championship round.
The seven-time PBA champion also said that they expect a tougher series against TNT Tropang Giga especially since both teams know each other well.
"Same intensity. We are just happy na nakabalik kami sa finals. The job is not yet done. We know na mas tougher series to specially both teams know each other," said Thompson.
True enough, Ginebra struggled in the first two games of the series to be down 0-2 in their match-up. But Thompson and the Gin Kings bounced back in their next two battles to tie the series up at 2-2.
The two-time Finals MVP also shared that it's up to the players on how to execute the plays that have been drawn up for them and he thought that defense will be the key to their victory.
Asked if the MVP Scottie will be seen in the Finals series, he said that he will give his all to help his team get the victory.
"Well, expect na lang nila hundred percent effort ang ibibigay ko sa game. Whatever the result is as long as we end up with a W ok na kami dun," he shared.
Thompson's words were backed-up by his game as he averaged in double figures in the Finals. He even reached a milestone when he grabbed his 2,000th career defensive rebounds in Game 4.
Tonight, Ginebra needs Thompson to continue his stellar play and be in his MVP mode for them to survive another day and force TNT Tropang Giga to a Game 7 on Sunday, November 10, in Antipolo.
Game 6 is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
