Akari Chargers win over Petro Gazz, books quarterfinals spot

Akari sweeps Petro Gazz, books quarterfinal spot against Cignal

Akari clinched a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour after defeating short-handed Petro Gazz, 32-30, 25-22, 25-19, on Tuesday, August 5, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

The Chargers regrouped from a chaotic first set, where they wasted six points, before finding their rhythm and pulling away behind a well-balanced attack and improved composure.

The win not only sealed their place in the knockout round but also marked a turning point for the young team, who are steadily adapting to the system of their head coach, Tina Salak.

PVL: Akari overcomes two-set deficit to enter quarterfinals

Akari staged a thrilling comeback from a two-set deficit to clinch a hard-fought victory over Farm Fresh in five sets, 25-11, 23-25, 18-25, 25-15, 15-9, on Tuesday, March 4, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

With the win, the Chargers advanced to the quarterfinals of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.

Ivy Lacsina delivered a stellar performance, earning Best Player of the Game honors after leading Akari with 22 points, built on 21 attacks and one block. She also contributed four excellent digs and four excellent receptions, showcasing her all-around game.

Making her much-anticipated return after missing most of the preliminaries due to a hand strain, Grethcel Soltones provided an immediate boost, finishing with 11 points, including three consecutive clutch hits in the final set.

Akari marred the debut of Thea Gagate and return of Jovelyn Gonzaga to overcome ZUS Coffee’s test, 25-14, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23, in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan on Thursday, November 14.

Akari collects second win in All-Filipino Conference

Akari marred the debut of Thea Gagate and return of Jovelyn Gonzaga to overcome ZUS Coffee’s test, 25-14, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23, in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan on Thursday, November 14.

Ivy Lacsina paced the Chargers, which had already defeated Galeries Tower on the first day of the season and had won two in a row for a solid 2-0 start.

After gaining a 16-13 advantage in the fourth set, debutante rookie Gagate attempted to keep the Thunderbelles in the match before Gretchel Soltones hammered a down-the-line kill, propelling Akari on a 23-20 lead.

Chai Troncoso then came through with a massive serve ace to square the match at 23 apiece.

However, Faith Nisperos and Lacsina delivered back-to-back sharp kills, shattering ZUS Coffee’s comeback attempts.

“Actually, we’re doing good in the fourth set, and then little by little, we’re showing quite bad attitude. It’s kind of relaxed already. Also, just because we already adjusted our serving, that’s why we were able to make a lot of passes,” said Chargers head coach Taka Minowa.
