The Petro Gazz has further cemented its position as one of the powerhouses in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) after taking down the ZUS Thunderbelles in four sets, 25-20, 24-26, 28-26, 25-22, in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) at the Philsports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday, February 4.

Petro Gazz, who were tied at 16-all in the fourth round, took advantage of ZUS Coffee's costly mistakes to pull away by as much as four points.

Jovelyn Gonzaga and Kate Santiago made an effort to keep the Thunderbelles afloat, but Myla Pablo and Brooke Van Sickle's combined effort proved to be too strong, as the Angels scored their final four points to win.

Reigning conference MVP Van Sickle erupted 27 points built on 25 attacks and two aces, on top of 15 excellent digs and five receptions to fuel Petro Gazz’s sixth consecutive win for 7-1, taking the top spot in the team standings.

“I thought ZUS did an amazing job. They definitely pushed us physically and mentally. Teams like that, it can be hard effort throughout the entire game especially as a hitter. I thought we stayed pretty composed even though how tired we are,” the Filipino-American spiker said.

“We didn’t wanna show it. I thought Myla did a fantastic job, we had a lot of swings and long rallies just to be able to stay focused, stay together as a team. It was a good win, they pushed us very, very hard,” she added.

Van Sickle was backstopped by fellow MVP Myla Pablo who fired a conference-high 22 markers, including three blocks, as they surged back from a 21-19 third-set deficit to take a vital 2-1 lead and never looked back.

Kate Santiago and Chai Troncoso paced the Thunderbelles with a combined score of 40 points that went down the drain despite their heroic efforts. ZUS Coffee dropped to a 4-5 win-loss record for the 8th spot.

Petro Gazz aims to defeat Capital1 for a seventh consecutive win next Tuesday, February 11, at the Philsports Arena, while ZUS Coffee aims to bounce back against Cignal on February 13 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
