Nxled nets long-awaited win vs Galeries, snaps 15-game tumble

Nxled scored its first-ever breakthrough win in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) against the gutsy Galeries Tower, 25-20, 19-25, 25-14, 25-23, on Saturday, February 8, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

The Chameleons snapped a 15-game losing streak since the Reinforced Conference in addition to entering the win column for the first time under Italian coach Ettore Guidetti.

EJ Laure was instrumental in ceasing the Chameleon’s drought, posting a game-high 19 points built on 14 attacks and five blocks, while also supplementing nine excellent digs and eight excellent receptions to earn Player of the Game honors.

Although the win was a big step forward, coach Guidetti stressed that the club is still committed to making constant progress.

“We are looking for more in the next games and want to show that this is just the beginning,” Guidetti said.

“Winning or losing in the last game has nothing to do with the next one. We’re going to put in the effort no matter what,” he added.

Team captain Chiara Permentilla supplied 14 markers, including 13 from attacks, while also putting up six excellent receptions. May Luna-Lumahan registered a double-digit output with 12 points.

The Chameleons want to maintain their momentum after their much anticipated victory when they play against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans on Thursday, February 13, at the same venue.

On the other hand, Jho Maraguinot and Graze Bombita paced the Galeries Tower, who tallied their fourth straight defeat.

Maraguinot top scored for the Highrisers with 14 markers on top of seven receptions and five digs behind Bombita’s 11 points.

The Highrisers will aim to get back to their winning ways against Petro Gazz on Saturday, February 15, in Antipolo City.
