Meralco Bolts import Allen Durham decided to retire in basketball
Meralco Bolts import Allen Durham has decided to retire from playing basketball to spend more time with his family.
This was confirmed by Bolts head coach Luigi Trillo, during the send off party given by his team.
“AD has decided to retire and he just feels it’s the right time. He wants to spend time with his children,” said Trillo.
The Meralco Bolts head coach believes that the participation of Durham in the team was considered a big part in turning the Meralco Bolts into what it is today.
The Bolts coach also believes that their losses in this conference laid the foundations for their team to become stable and strong in their next journey.
“He had been a big part of turning Meralco basketball into what it is today. I don’t think we would have won if not for the foundation of all these years. AD was part of that. Glad to have gone to war with him,” said Trillo.
Top Meralco officials together with his team gave him a send off party, and the whole team praised Durham for all that he did for the franchise. Team captain Chris Newsome, together with Cliff Hodge, Anjo Caram, and Bong Quinto spoke about the mild-mannered and kind-hearted import.
Allen Durham is a product of Grace Christian University in Wyoming, his first stint in Asia’s oldest professional league was with the Barako Bull during the 2014 Governors’ Cup in which he helped the franchise reach the playoffs but lost to TNT in the opening round.
Following his Governors’ Cup stint this year, he also played for Meralco in the East Asia Super League (EASL) Home and Away Season 2 and helped the Bolts to win their debut game against the Macau Black Bears, 92-85, but later suffered a loss to his former B. League team Ryukyu, 77-74.
“He felt it was time to retire after the Japan game. Ang ganda ng reception sa kanya (sa Japan). They say there’s a time to move away from the game, and AD felt this is the time, the proper time,” Trillo concluded.
