Jamie Danielle Nirza delivers gold in women’s individual kata
Jamie Danielle Nirza clinched gold in the advanced women’s individual kata at the 2024 Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines – East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Friendship Games on Wednesday, December 5, at the NCCC Mall in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
The 18-year-old Nirza, who is representing Philippines Team A, exhibited her outstanding skills to earn 36.5 total points, defeating Malaysia’ A Anisa Aira Nur who logged 36.2 for silver medal.
Malaysia B’s Ameera Liew and Brunei’s Nasir Abdul completed the podium to bag the bronze medal.
“I’m happy to achieve such a feat, and I worked hard for this one. I’m glad that I was able to perform the way I wanted, and I’m happy for my teammates that we're able to perform (well),” said Nirza, a first-year nursing student from Jose Maria College.
"My mindset is that I already practiced so when I perform, I'm going to give my best. I don't have to overthink about 'what if I make a mistake' because I already practiced this,” she added.
Nirza was denied the opportunity to make it a double gold haul as she and her teammates, Yesha Lee Ho and Al Rhina Kawano, bowed to Malaysia B on the women’s team final to claim silver after producing 34.6 points.
In the advanced men’s individual kata, on the other hand, Arvin Jaydonn Santillan emerged triumphant after nabbing silver with 36 points for Philippines A.
