Ilocos Norte hosts mini tournament for “Set Na Natin ’To” tour

A mini volleyball tournament featuring four local teams will highlight the “Set Na Natin ‘To” Trophy and Mascot Tour this Saturday, August 24, at the newly-opened SM City Laoag.

Competing at Dap Ayan Park are Block Builders, Laoag MVT, PSQ, and NWU, in what organizers say will be both a celebration of the sort and a showcase of Ilocos Norte’s grassroots talent.

“This will be one of the major activities leading to the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2025,” said Faivo Bartolome, Ilocos Norte Volleyball president and provincial sports consultant.

He added that local officials, including Governor Cecelia Marcos, Vice Gov. Matthew Manotoc, Laoag City Mayor James Bryan Alcid, and Vice Mayor Rey Carlos Fariñas, have been invited to the day-long event, which opens at 10 a.m. and culminates with a formal program at 6 p.m.

The Ilocos Norte stop is the second leg of the three-city tour, which kicked off last weekend at SM Seaside in Cebu City and will wrap up on August 30 at SM Downtown Cagayan de Oro.

Meanwhile, PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara reported that Alas Pilipinas are on track with their three-country European training camp.

The men’s national team is currently in Santo Tirso, Portugal, fine-tuning preparations for the World Championship set from September 12 to 28 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena and Smart Arenata Coliseum. 

Suzara also shared positive news on player health. Noting that national team stars Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo have both recovered from recent injuries.
