Bomogao stays unstoppable scores KO victory at ONE Friday Fights 134

Islay Erika Bomogao continues her meteoric rise in ONE Championship, delivering another electrifying performance as she scored a second-round knockout victory over Thailand’s Ploychompoo PU Phabai at ONE Friday Fights 134 in Bangkok.

Fighting once again under the bright lights of the historic Lumpinee Stadium, the 23-year-old Filipina showed no signs of slowing down. From the opening bell, Bomogao pushed the pace, peppering her opponent with sharp combinations and unrelenting pressure that had the Thai debutante on the defensive.

By the second round, Bomogao’s barrage proved too much. A clean, decisive flurry sent Ploychompoo crashing down, prompting the referee to wave off the fight — sealing Bomogao’s fourth straight victory in ONE Championship.

This latest triumph also marks her second consecutive knockout, following her emphatic first-round finish over Nerea Rubio last June.

With the win, Bomogao improves to 4-0 in ONE’s Muay Thai ranks, with two of those victories coming by stoppage — a testament to her growing power, precision, and evolution as a world-class striker.

Still perfect. Still rising. And still carrying the Filipino fighting spirit every time she steps into the ring.

Bomogao set to return at ONE Friday Fights against Spain’s Nerea Rubio

On Friday, March 28, 2025, Islay Erika Bomogao is set to make her return at ONE Friday Fights 102 in Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand.

The pride of Baguio City will once again put her undefeated record on the line against Spain’s Nerea Rubio in 103-pound Muay Thai action.

Bomogao has endeared herself to fans abroad, particularly the Thai crowd at Lumpinee, after showcasing her carefree “Pinoy style” Muay Thai.

She dazzled in her two matches last year, defeating Ran Longshu and Fuu in convincing fashion to make a strong impression in the promotion.

In her social media post, Bomogao called for support for her fight along with her fellow Filipino fighters who will also compete on Friday.

“Please support me and my team, including my fellow Filipinos Jean Claude Saclag and Marwin Quirante, who will be opening the show,” said Bomogao in her post.

The main event features a 130-pound Muay Thai bout between Rambong Sor Therapat and his Thai compatriot Pompet Panthonggym, with major implications. Rambong is riding a seven-fight winning streak ahead of this clash, while Pompet, having lost back-to-back fights, has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Additionally, Scotland’s Rudy Da Silva, Japan’s Takuma Ota, and Russia’s Torepchi Dongak all return to action.

Meanwhile, multiple SEA Games kickboxing gold medalist Jean Claude “The Dynamite” Saclag of Team Lakay makes his MMA return alongside his Filipino compatriot, rising MMA star Marwin "Green Goblin" Quirante, who will also showcase his skills at ONE Friday Fights 102.

"Green Goblin" secured two first-round finishes in ONE Friday Fights, while Saclag earned two TKO wins over Lee Jun Young and Fajar. He looks to follow in the footsteps of Carlo Bumina-ang as a winner.

Bomogao and Zamboanga clinched their win

Bomogao and Zamboanga win matches in One Championship weekend

Two of the country's Filipina fighters secured victories in their fights this past weekend.

Muay Thai fighter Islay Erika Bomogao clinched her second win after winning a unanimous decision against her opponent, Chinese fighter Ran Longshu, at ONE Friday Fights 93 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday night, January 10.

In the opening round of their match, her Chinese opponent immediately showed aggression, but Bomogao showed her defense and immediately hit the Chinese fighter with a series of combo punches until she finally gained the advantage over her opponent.

With the win, Bomogao now has a 2-0 win-loss record.

Meanwhile, mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Denice “The Menace” Zamboanga made history by defeating Ukrainian grappler Alyona Rassohyna via second-round technical knockout on Saturday, January 11, in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 27 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Zamboanga is now the first Filipina mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter to win the ONE Championship crown and an impressive win over the women’s MMA atomweight title.

To secure the victory, the 27-year-old Filipina fighter used her striking skills with well-aimed punches and good grappling defense to overcome Rassohyna, who tried to use her for Zamboanga.

The referee stopped the fight at 4:47 after Zamboanga landed elbows and ground and pound punches and was able to break through Rassohyna’s ankle lock attempt.

Zamboanga couldn't believe her victory, which she had been hoping for for years, and now her efforts have paid off.

“I’ve been aiming for this gold for years. I’m not here for short notice or something, I’ve made this from hard work, tears and everything. The delays and injuries, I’ve had a lot of injuries. Last two weeks ago I couldn’t move my left arm. But I didn’t want to cancel the fight because I know God will give me this belt. Thank you for giving me this opportunity,”  Zamboanga said.

Because of her impressive win, she will now be able to fight for the unification bout against the regular champion of her division, Stamp Fairtex.

“I really deserve to fight stamp because I proved it (in this fight) by finishing my opponent’,” Zamboanga added.

UFC: Bomogao to fight again at ONE Friday Fights 93 on January 10

Filipina mixed martial artist Islay Erika Bomogao will fight for the second time in ONE Friday Fights 93  on January 10, to be held at the Lumpinee Stadium in Thailand.

The Igorota Muay Thai fighter will face Chinese fighter Ran Longshu under the 101-pound catchweight Muay Thai.

The fight between Bomogao and Longshu is one of 12 fights lined up this Friday, and she is the first Philippine fighter to see action at ONE Championship in 2025.

Last year, Bombogao became world number 1 in the 45kg female elite division of the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA). She also defeated Fuu in her dazzling debut fight last November 2024, where she got a clear-cut unanimous decision win.

Her first experience on the stage of Muay Thai gave her the thirst and she wanted to get back in the saddle.

Bomogao "Islays" Japanese foe in her ONE Championship debut fight

Filipina Muay Thai fighter Islay Erika Bomogao's birthday wish has been granted as she won her debut in ONE Championship against her Japanese foe, Fuu.

One of her dreams has been fulfilled when she entered the ONE Championship ring, and it became more special when she got the win during her natal day.

The Muay Thai fighter from the Philippines earned a unanimous decision to win over her Japanese opponent on Friday night at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Bomogao's opponent came out swinging which momentarily caught by Filipina fighter off guard. It did not take long for the Filipina to adjust, and she threw sneaky kicks up top while unleashing quick punches and elbows.

The Japanese  fighter pressed the action in round two, but it was Bomogao who landed cleaner with her counterstriking.

Fuu continued to move forward in the third and final round but was mostly on the receiving end of Bomogao's lengthy kicks that kept her at bay.
