Garcia to give cash incentive to Ando, Ceniza
Cebuano weightlifters Elreen Ando and John Ceniza will begin their quest for Olympic gold next week, but this early, the acting mayor of Cebu City has promised to give them a huge bonus if they win medals in Paris.
Acting Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia is committed to award Ando and Ceniza 1 million each from his personal funds if they can clinch gold medals in weightlifting.
“This is a promise. When they return to the city of Cebu and bring home the gold medal, I will give them P1 million from my personal funds P1 million” said mayor Garcia. “If they bring home the silver, I will give them P500,000 and for bronze, P300,000.”
This apart from what they can receive based on the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act.
On Monday, July 29, the city government of Cebu had given P200,000 each to Ando and Ceniza’s families as additional funds for their international campaigns.
Ando won two silvers and a bronze at the Asian Weightlifting Championships, while Ceniza claimed a silver at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games and a bronze at the 2020 Roma Weightlifting World Cup.
Ando's and Ceniza's Olympic events are scheduled on August 7 and 8, respectively.
