Buding Duremdes departs Chery Tiggo, signs with Cignal
Buding Duremdes is set to don a new shade of red with Cignal for the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.
The Cignal HD Spikers announced the development on Wednesday, November 20, on a social media post.
“A NEW SHADE OF RED. We’re excited to welcome the awesome energy of Buding Duremdes to the Cignal HD Spikers in this 2024-25 PVL Season!,” the post read.
Duremdes bid her goodbyes with the Chery Tiggo Crossovers during the offseason, concluding a four-year run that included helping the team win the 2021 Open Conference, the league’s first professional conference title.
The signing of the former Chery Tiggo ace will provide much-needed assistance following an offseason exodus that saw the resignation of 11-year mainstay Jheck Dionela.
The 5-foot-2 Duremdes will significantly strengthen Cignal's lineup, which is currently shorthanded with just 13 players. She is anticipated to bolster the team’s defense and add depth behind veteran libero Dawn Macandili-Catindig during the tournament, which lasts for five months.
Additionally, Duremdes will also be reunited with head coach Shaq delos Santos, who coached her during her time with Far Eastern University (FEU) and Petron in the now-defunct Philippine Super Liga, as well as former teammates Gel Cayuna, Gyzelle Sy, and Jovelyn Fernandez.
The HD Spikers defeated Farm Fresh in straight sets, 25-15, 25-18, 25-21, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo last Saturday, November 21, giving them a great start to the All-Filipino Conference.
Duremdes may make her Cignal debut tomorrow, November 21, when they play Chery Tiggo, her old team, at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan.
