Farm Fresh emerged victorious over sister team ZUS Coffee off a four-set decision, 26-24, 13-25, 25-21, 25-19, in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Thursday, December 6, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. After barely winning the opening set and getting slumped in the second, the Foxies regained their rhythm and immediately corrected the mistakes in the last two frames to secure the win and post an even 2-2 win-loss record.Jovelyn Gonzaga's attack error at 19-15 gave the Foxies a four-point lead after the game had started neck and neck in the fourth set.With momentum on their side, Trisha Tubu propelled Farm Fresh ahead to gain its largest lead at 23-16.“We observe how they move, and if we see something that doesn’t align with their usual play, we need to correct it immediately, and that’s what happened earlier,” said Farm Fresh head coach Edson Bocboc. “In the first two sets, they were really off, so those are the things we need to fix. They still need to get used to competing and playing in more matches,” he added.

During the first three sets, it was like that, our moves weren't right, it seemed clumsy. But it came out in the fourth set," said Chery Tiggo’s ace Cess Robles during the postgame interview.The Crossovers’ victory was bannered by Robles, who registered a game-high 21 points anchored on 20 attacks and an ace along with 11 excellent receptions and nine excellent digs.Captain Aby Maraño contributed a 15-point output, while Pauline Gaston, who assisted the team clinch the fourth set, scored a total of 14 markers.Jen Nierva took care of Chery Tiggo’s defense with 21 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions as Jas Nabor orchestrated the team’s play, tossing 13 excellent sets.Gaston’s several attack points helped the Crossovers rally to a 9-2 run from 16-14 deficit in Set 4, tying the match at two sets apiece.

Cash incentives await some student-athletes representing the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) in the 2024 Palarong Pambansa.Asia Paraase, a student-athlete from Pajo National High School, who bagged the first gold medal for the 64th Palarong Pambansa on Thursday, July 11, will receive a cash incentive from Lapu-Lapu Government after demonstrating an exceptional performance during the secondary girls 3,000-meter run category.Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan acknowledged Paraase’s achievement and assured athletes from the city that they would be granted an unspecified amount worth of cash incentives.“We are happy and proud that the first gold medal came from an athlete from Lapu-Lapu. This brings great pride to our city,” said Chan.Participating student-athletes who will clinch gold, silver, and bronze medals will be rewarded.The City Sports Commission will recommend the budget allocation that will be approved and passed by the City Council.

Other gold medalists included female woodpushers Edelyn Vosotros and Kristina Concepcion Belano, arnisador Nathaniel Abing, and nine golds from dancesport dancers.Paraase secured the gold medal after clocking in a time of 10:27:36, beating Eastern Visayas’ (Region VIII) Chrishia Mae Tajarros (10:39:72) and Davao Region’s (Region XI) Mary Jane Pagayon (10:52:72).At the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu, Central Visayas’ chess players Edelyn Vosotros and Kristina Concepcion Belano of the University of Cebu Webmasters delivered two gold medals. Although Talley cut the deficit to 5-up by the 24th hole, Malixi sealed her victory by birdying the 25th and 27th holes and parring the 29th, which Talley bogeyed, clinching the title with seven holes remaining. Malixi finished with 14 birdies and no bogeys.Her triumph over Talley earned Malixi a spot in the 2025 US Women’s Open, where Japan’s Yuka Saso, who won the major for the Philippines in 2021, will defend her title. The De La Salle Lady Archers is getting its own share of basketball stars, as Gilas Girls powerhouse Princess “BJ” Villarin will suit up for the green-and-white beginning UAAP Season 87.According to a report from the Tiebreaker Times, the 5-foot-6 Gilas star has chosen to commit to DLSU, ending her high school basketball career with the NU Lady Bullpups and the NU system in general.DLSU management confirmed to Tiebreaker Times that the UAAP 3x3 and NBTC veteran will indeed make the jump from NU to DLSU.During her high school career, Villarin was part of the Lady Bullpups 3x3 program. She also suited up for national team duty, having played in the 2022 FIBA Under-16 and Under-18 Asian Championship.With Villarin’s incluision in the lineup, DLSU can find itself improving on its women’s basketball record after finishing the Final Four with a 7-7 record. An archer from Siliman University competing for the first time ever grabbed three gold medals during the Palarong Pambansa 2024 Archery Competition.Naina Dominique Tagle earlier won two gold medals in the Girls Recurve 60 meters and 70 meters events, and one more for the Girls 1140 FITA event held at the South Road Properties (SRP) Grounds in Cebu City on Saturday, July 13.She ended up getting 3 golds in 4 events she participated in, grabbing the silver medal in the Girls Recurve 50 meters event - a great showing for a team debuting in the highly-competitive regional sports meet.“I think everybody has their skill set and not everyone can be the best at everything,” she told CDN Digital in an interview.Tagle’s coach, Darlene Banglos, had nothing but good words for her debuting team as they ended up victorious in their Palaro debut.“There is a bright future when it comes to archery because these are very young athletes, they still have a lot to learn,” Banglos told CDN Digital.Tagle will be competing for the Olympic Round of the archery event.

Swimming powerhouses, National Capital Region (NCR) and the CALABARZON (Region IV-A), emerged as the dominant delegations as the medal-rich swimming event of the Palarong Pambansa 2024 closed its curtain after four days of competition at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) Aquatics Center on Sunday, July 14.

NCR, CALABARZON reign swim event by raking 21 golds each

Swimming powerhouses, National Capital Region (NCR) and the CALABARZON (Region IV-A), emerged as the dominant delegations as the medal-rich swimming event of the Palarong Pambansa 2024 closed its curtain after four days of competition at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) Aquatics Center on Sunday, July 14.In total, NCR transpired as the top delegation and overall champion of the swimming event with 21 gold medals, 20 silvers, and 22 bronzes.On the other hand, CALABARZON also hauled 21 gold medals with 11 silvers and 10 bronzes to put them at the second spot of the overall medal standings.Despite placing second, Region IV-A produced the victorious swimmers of the event.Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh completed a sweep of six individual events she participated at the 64th Palarong Pambansa capped by a girls’ secondary 400 meter individual medley conquest on Sunday, July 14.Representing Brent International School Manila, Mojdeh collected a total of six gold medals and one bronze in the secondary girls division.The 17-year-old ruled the 200m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 200m breaststroke, 200m Individual Medley, 400m IM, and the 4x100m medley relay.Besides that, Mojdeh set two new records in the 200m butterfly, registering 2:19.72 beating her previous record by almost three seconds, and 200m breaststroke, clocking in 2:42.75 routing the 2:43.08 time set by Xandi Chua in 2019.Meanwhile, Albert Jose Amaro II completed a sweet in his seven scheduled events. Amaro who won four gold medals in the first three days of competition, added three more in the finale day.The San Beda Taytay representative topped the 4x100m medley relay, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle and finished his campaign by ruling three more events in the 200m freestyle, 4x100m freestyle relay, and the 50m freestyle.

After a failed attempt some 30 years ago, the province of Agusan del Sur has been named as the host of the Palarong Pambansa 2026.The development was announced following the passing of the Palarong Pambansa flag on to next year’s host.After nearly 60 years, Ilocos Norte is set to host the Palarong Pambansa once again in 2025. Cebu City Acting Mayor Raymond Garcia passed on the Palarong Pambansa flag to Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc during the grand closing ceremony at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).Earlier this year, Agusan del Sur submitted its bid to host the event, showcasing the D.O. Plaza Memorial Sports Complex, which boasts of world-class sporting facilities.The highlight of the sports complex is its 3,000-seat grandstand, rubberized track, football field with artificial grass, Olympic-sized swimming pool, air-conditioned courts for volleyball and basketball, and other amenities.Additional facilities include a 24-room hotel located within the main grandstand and a tennis court.The other Mindanao bidders who submitted their proposal to the Palarong Pambansa Board were the provinces of Misamis Occidental and Zamboanga City.The last time Mindanao hosted the Palarong Pambansa was in 2019 in Davao City.
