Suzara shares key plans as new president of AVC

Filipino sporting official Ramon "Tats" Suzara has been named the new president of the Asian Volleyball Confederation.

This, as he is the newest official tasked with putting the name of the Philippines’ volleyball teams on the map.

The countdown begins for the upcoming 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship that will take place in the Philippines. In order for the national volleyball teams to thrive on the world stage, Suzara has to implement the visions he has for the AVC.

First on his agenda is to put volleyball as the Top 5 of popular sports in Asia especially that Philippines is one of the spectators in Volleyball National League (VNL) around the world followed by Thailand, according to Suzara.

Purchasing land in Bangkok to convert it into AVC’s headquarters is also part of his mission.

"I want AVC to establish its own home. We have an office in Bangkok but we are just renting from the Sports Authority of Thailand," said Suzara during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Following the European’s Champions League style, Suzara intends to come up with the AVC Champions League where the top clubs in each country participating will be gathered at one place to compete.

“Secondly is to create an Athletes’ Commission because there was never an athletes’ commission in the AVC. I want to establish this because this is important to the athletes, former athletes in Asia. They should be recognized,” expressed Suzara.

An increase of support to the five zonal associations in Asia. He wants to put support in countries part of Oceania, Southeast Asia, East Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia.

Lastly, Suzara wanted to create an AVC Gala Night. A night focused on honoring the best volleyball players and coaches in Asia.

These are just some of Suzara’s plans that he is willing to implement in order for the organization to strive and further outline the future of national volleyball clubs into the world stage.
